Day 20: The Ethereal Morning at Cathedral Rocks

The pre-dawn hour of Day 20 saw me driving north to Cathedral Rocks in Kiama Downs, guided by the promise of an emerging sunrise. A soft drizzle tapped against the car windows, setting a rhythmic prelude to what awaited me at the shoreline.

Upon arrival, the carpark was damp, but the rain had ceased, leaving behind a fresh clarity in the air. A thin sliver of light on the horizon beckoned the first signs of daybreak cutting through the dark silhouette of the landscape.

Cathedral Rocks stood as stoic sentinels against the burgeoning light, the tide high and assertive. Navigating the rocks with respect and caution, I set up my gear, the sea's spray a gentle reminder of the ocean's power.

As the sun peeked through the clouds, its rays spotlighted the churning waters below, a natural spectacle of light and motion. I attached a graduated ND filter to my camera to balance the sky's brilliance with the sea's dynamic movement. This allowed me to capture the water's dance between the rocks, each wave a brushstroke of nature's own making.

The resulting image is a juxtaposition of stillness and motion—a tranquil sky above, the lively sea below. The sun's rays illuminated the scene with an ethereal glow, highlighting the textured rocks and the water's graceful flow.

This morning at Cathedral Rocks was a testament to the beauty that lies in the harmony of elements. The ND filter was crucial in capturing the subtleties of this balance, allowing the water's energy to be expressed fully without losing the delicate colours of the dawn sky.

Join me as I continue to chase these fleeting moments of morning majesty, where every sunrise tells a different story, and every landscape holds a new mystery to unveil
