Day 165 of 366: Blue Hour at Crooked River, Gerroa

A Serene Evening at Gerroa: After finishing and packing up my exhibition, I felt a strong urge to head out and capture the tranquil beauty of the blue hour. My destination was Gerroa, with a plan to photograph the picturesque footbridge and the striking sandstone formations along the side of Crooked River.

Capturing the Essence of Blue Hour: As the sky turned a soothing shade of blue, I positioned myself to capture the footbridge and the surrounding sandstone. The goal was to use a higher key technique to smooth out the water, creating a calm and serene atmosphere. The soft light of the blue hour, combined with the stillness of the water, promised to make a compelling image.

Finding the Perfect Perspective: After taking several shots of the sandstone and river, I moved closer to the footbridge to find the perfect perspective. The long, white structure provided an excellent contrast against the natural surroundings, and I aimed to highlight this juxtaposition in my composition.

Post-Processing Magic: Once home, I quickly edited the images in Photoshop. The main focus was to balance the colours and bring out the subtle tones of the blue hour. Enhancing the natural hues of the sandstone and the bridge, I aimed to make the final image as vibrant and lifelike as possible.

Reflection on the Day's Work: Today's shoot was a reminder of the beauty that can be found in familiar places. The Crooked River and its footbridge, elements I've seen many times before, took on a new life in the soft light of the blue hour. This experience reinforced the importance of timing and perspective in landscape photography.
