Day 192 of 366: A Sunset's Surprise at Werri Beach

An Unexpected Start to the Day

Today's journey with the camera began later than usual. After enjoying a rare sleep-in on a crisp winter's morning, the day unfolded slowly. The afternoon sky hinted at potential photographic opportunities, with scattered clouds creating a dramatic backdrop against the fading light. It was the perfect invitation to head out and capture the day's final show.

Change of Plans

Initially, I planned to capture the sunset at Boat Harbour in Gerringong, hoping warm glow of sunset on the distinctive headland. However, nature often has plans of its own. Upon arrival, I realized the clouds hadn't drifted as far south as anticipated. This slight miscalculation in my expectations could have been disappointing, but instead, it served as a catalyst for adaptability and creativity.

Finding Beauty in the Unexpected

Redirecting to Werri Beach, I positioned myself mid-beach, where a different set of clouds caught my eye. These clouds, looking south toward the headland, presented a fresh and unexpected perspective. The vibrant colours of the sky, paired with the rhythmic waves crashing onto the shore, painted a serene scene—one of calm before the quiet of the night.

The Shot

The photograph I chose to share captures this unexpected view. The clouds, illuminated by the sunset's warm hues, contrast sharply with the cool tones of the ocean, creating a layered visual experience. This image is less about the specific location and more about the mood conveyed through the interplay of light, water, and sky.

Reflections on Flexibility

Today reminded me of the importance of flexibility in photography and life. What may seem like a setback—a missed location, a change in weather—can open the door to new perspectives. Embracing these moments can lead to discoveries that we might otherwise miss.
