Day 41: The Dramatic Skies of Kiama
The day's first light was meant to be captured at Gerroa, but the elements had other plans. Greeted by a strong wind upon arrival, I shifted course towards Kiama, seeking shelter from the gusts and a new canvas to capture. The wind, relentless as ever, followed, but it could not dampen my resolve.
Perched upon the break wall of Kiama Harbour, I gazed eastward, where the rock pool lay in wait. The sun, already ascended, hid behind a veil of clouds, and for a moment, it seemed as though the opportunity for the day's shot had slipped away. But the art of photography is an exercise in patience and observation.
As I retreated towards my car, the sky began to perform a spectacle of light and shadows. Shafts of light pierced the cloud cover, creating a celestial display that demanded immediate attention. Without hesitation, I switched to my 85mm lens, drawing the drama of the skies closer to the rock pool below.
The scene before me was one of contrast and convergence—the turbulent beauty of the clouds above and the steadfast presence of the pool below. The columns of light, ethereal and fleeting, connected sky to sea, illuminating the water's surface with a celestial glow.
This photograph, born from a moment of serendipity, is a testament to the ever-changing theatre of the natural world. It is a reminder that sometimes, the most stunning images arise when we least expect them, in the interplay between earth and sky, light and darkness.
Day 41 of my photographic journey was a lesson in adaptability and the rewards of persistence. In the dramatic skies of Kiama, I found a visual harmony that resonated with the day's turbulent beginnings, a harmony that resonated deeply with the spirit of this 366-day quest.
