Day 4: A Panoramic Perspective - The Kiama Lighthouse Small World

Today's adventure in photography took me to the scenic Kiama Lighthouse, where I aimed to capture not just an image, but a 360-degree narrative of this coastal guardian. With my camera paired with the classic nifty fifty lens, I embarked on creating a vast panorama composed of a 17x5 photo grid. Each shot was meticulously planned for overlap, ensuring that I'd have all the information needed to stitch together the final panorama.

The process was intricate, a testament to patience and precision. As the southerly winds brushed through, adding a dynamic element to the scene, I knew the timing was perfect for this week's 'middle of the day' challenge. The challenge brought with it an opportunity to capture the lighthouse in a light most would shy away from, but I found it highlighted the textures and contours of the landscape in a unique way.

Back at my digital workshop, I began the process of piecing together the panoramic puzzle with PTgui. The resulting image spanned a breathtaking 600x90 cm, which I then resized to a more manageable dimension for the final phase of my creation—a transformation into a 'small world' using Photoshop.

This technique, which I hadn't visited in quite some time, was both challenging and immensely rewarding. It's a process that requires a blend of artistic vision and technical skill, resulting in a whimsical portrayal of reality that invites viewers to step into a self-contained universe.

The result is this 'small world' panorama: a spherical illusion that draws the eye inward, from the dramatic skies swirling above to the lighthouse standing tall amidst the lush greenery and rugged coastline.
