Day 330 of 366: Lizards in the Limelight

Today's adventure took me back to the tranquil settings of Boat Harbour in Gerringong, a place that never ceases to offer new subjects for my lens. After a refreshing dip in the ocean pool, the warm sun lured not just me but also a pair of water dragons to bask in its comforting glow.

These creatures, known for their elusive nature, were sprawled comfortably among the grass, soaking up the afternoon warmth. The sight was too perfect to pass up. With my long lens equipped and a careful approach, I managed to creep close enough to capture their detailed textures and vibrant colours before they could scurry away.

Water dragons, with their intricate scales and commanding gaze, are a spectacular subject for any wildlife photographer. They blend effortlessly with the lush greenery, yet stand out with an almost prehistoric dignity. Today, they seemed almost unaware of my presence, or simply too content in the sunlight to care.

Capturing these moments felt like a small victory—a reminder of the quiet yet exciting encounters that await in the great outdoors. Each click of the shutter was a nod to the peaceful coexistence of human and wildlife, a momentary connection to the natural world that often goes unnoticed.

As I packed up my gear, the dragons lingered for a while longer, perhaps enjoying the quiet afternoon as much as I did. It's these spontaneous encounters that make each day of this project uniquely rewarding. Whether it's the crashing waves of the ocean or the calm demeanour of sunbathing lizards, there's always a story to tell and a memory to capture.
