Day 156 of 366: Capturing the Wave Motion at Pheasants Point
Heading to Kiama:
This afternoon, I ventured into Kiama with the goal of capturing a top-down shot of Pheasants Point. The weather was cold and dull, typical of a winter's day, but it provided the perfect conditions for the image I had envisioned.
Setting Up the Shot:
With the tide at a very high level and the sky overcast, I saw an opportunity to capture the dramatic motion of the waves breaking around the rocks. I sent the drone skywards, aiming to get a unique perspective that would showcase the power and beauty of the ocean. The lower light conditions from the cloud cover allowed me to slow the shutter speed, creating a sense of movement in the water.
Capturing the Moment:
From above, the scene was mesmerizing. The waves continuously crashed against the rugged rocks, creating a dynamic and ever-changing pattern. The combination of the high tide and the overcast sky provided the perfect backdrop for a long exposure shot, capturing the fluid motion of the water as it swirled and broke around the rocks.
Editing the Image:
Back home, I began the editing process, focusing on enhancing the natural contrasts and colours in the image. The long exposure technique had beautifully captured the motion of the waves, giving the water a soft, almost ethereal quality. The contrast between the dark, jagged rocks and the smooth, flowing water added depth and drama to the composition.
Reflecting on the Experience:
Today's shoot at Pheasants Point was a reminder of the power and beauty of the ocean. The conditions, while challenging, were perfect for the shot I had in mind. The use of the drone provided a unique perspective, capturing the intricate patterns created by the waves. This experience reinforced the importance of patience and timing in photography, as well as the value of exploring different angles and perspectives.
