Day 190 of 366: A Moody Day at Sea

Embarking on an Unexpected Journey

Today's adventure began with a routine car service down in Nowra, but rather than heading straight back, I opted for an impromptu trip to Huskisson for a whale watching excursion with Jervis Bay Wild. The morning greeted us with low visibility and a fine drizzle, setting a mystical stage for what was to unfold.

Navigating Through the Mists

As our boat sliced through the waters, leaving Huskisson behind, the dense clouds began to lift momentarily, yet the summit of Point Perpendicular remained shrouded in mystery, hidden from view. The atmosphere on the boat was one of anticipation mixed with awe at the dramatic landscape unfolding around us.

Whale Encounters and Dynamic Landscapes

The main highlight of the trip was, of course, hoping to see the whales. While the whale sightings were fleeting, managing only a few shots, the day was far from disappointing. The real spectacle turned out to be the rich tapestry of marine life and the rugged seascapes that characterize this part of the coast. From albatrosses gliding over the choppy waters to an eagle soaring near the cliffs, the wildlife was as captivating as the elusive whales.

Today's Highlight: Bowen Island

The photograph featured today was taken as we were heading back towards the harbor. It captures the essence of Bowen Island under the dramatic skies, with waves crashing against its storied rocks—an image made all the more stirring by the low hanging clouds and the moody hues of the sea.

I quickly switched lenses to capture this moment, ensuring the raw power and serene beauty of Bowen Island were perfectly framed. The scene was a vivid reminder of nature's dual nature: calm yet formidable.
