Day 264 of 366: Sunrise Splendour at Werri Beach

This morning, I was drawn out of bed at the early hour of 5:20 am, compelled by a strong intuition that today’s sunrise at Werri Beach would be particularly remarkable. As the sun peeked over the horizon, its first light painted the sky in vibrant strokes.

Embracing New Perspectives

Breaking from my usual routine, I opted for a 100-400mm lens instead of my standard 24mm. This choice brought a fresh perspective, allowing me to zoom in closely and appreciate the minute details that often go unnoticed. It was an exploration of the finer textures and movements of nature at dawn.

Capturing Motion and Colour

The main spectacle was not the sun itself, but a small wave breaking off the headland. Under the long lens, the wave transformed into a glass-like sculpture, embodying a perfect blend of motion and stillness. The dark waters were lit by the morning sun, threading gold and amber through the curling wave, creating a visual symphony of colours.

The Dance of Light

This particular wave, caught in the act of breaking, was a display of nature’s artistry. The sunlight filtering through the water illuminated the wave from within, casting a glow that contrasted sharply with the darker waters surrounding it. Each droplet was a prism, reflecting and refracting the morning light.

A Moment of Serenity

Capturing this wave was a meditative experience. It was a reminder of the ocean’s transient beauty, existing in a constant state of change yet captured in a single, serene moment. The early morning, with its soft light and still air, provided a perfect canvas for this brief but stunning performance.

Reflective Thoughts

Today’s photography session was a testament to the beauty that awaits when we venture out of our comfort zones and try new approaches. Each image captured not just a scene, but a unique instance of time, forever preserved in light and shadow. It reinforced the idea that photography, at its essence, is about discovering new ways to see the world around us.
